2021 Pumpkin War
Hello!
On November 22nd, after a long time, a company-wide 'Pumpkin War'
unity event was held for all the headquarters employees.
First of all, the name 'Pumpkin War' was inspired by the popular Netflix series 'Squid Game,'
which topped the global viewership charts in November. It was created
by adding the word 'war' to the concept of a traditional competition.
The word 'pumpkin' was initially used in the early planning stages
because the event was originally scheduled for the end of October,
and we wanted to incorporate a Halloween vibe!
However, the schedule was changed to the end of November,
making the Halloween-themed name slightly awkward.
But since it was an event that everyone could enjoy together,
I think it had enough meaning in itself!
In fact, the inception of the 'Pumpkin War' unity event began with casual conversation
between the IBP team and the Education team.
During a discussion about 'Squid Game,' someone said,
'It would be great if we could try a real-life version of it at Daeyeon!'
This conversation sparked the planning and execution of the event!
TFT was formed right away!
Members from the IBP team, MD team, and Education team,
who were known as the in-house idea bank, were selected as volunteer organizers.
Since they had little to no work overlap with the existing organizing members,
it allowed for a fresh synergy and the sharing of various ideas.
First, we considered the purpose of why we were organizing this unity event.
We realized that colleagues at work would spend more time together
and see each other's faces more often than their own families.
Despite seeing colleagues more frequently than family members,
we felt that there hadn't been many opportunities for us to bond and come together as a team within the office.
So, under the company's mission of being a 'happy company that shares the best experiences and energy,'
we wanted Daeyeon employees to have a chance to break down their walls and share joy with each other,
even if it was just a little bit. That's why we planned and executed the event.
While the concept of the unity event was initially inspired by
the immensely popular 'Squid Game,' as time went on and we continued to shape the framework,
we wanted to incorporate Daeyeon's unique identity. Above all, during the unity event,
we hoped that everyone could momentarily put aside their work and enjoy a stress-free time filled with laughter.
Because we shared this mindset, all the volunteer organizers took their roles with responsibility,
and everyone performed as leaders until the event.
During the preparation period, there were many memorable moments,
but one that stands out is when we encountered a crisis four days
before the event due to the unavailability of the dalgona supplier.
We remained calm, bought dalgona kits, and spent six hours making dalgona ourselves.
It's a memory we can't forget.
All the volunteer organizers were employees,
so it was a first for them to organize such an event, which came with its own challenges.
However, it was gratifying to see employees actively participating.
In particular, we were very grateful for the active participation of the executives,
as their involvement helped to further energize the unity event.
Participating in the unity event made everyone feel like they had returned to their childhood,
sincerely enjoying the moment. Seeing people interact without hesitation,
even with those they had just met, during the event made the challenges faced
during the preparation process feel rewarding all at once.
And if it weren't for the unity event, we would have never seen the new sides of the headquarters employees.
We witnessed Manager Yeon-su, the queen of the 'Say It With Your Body' game, who knew every idol's dance.
We saw Manager Min-jeong, who turned into an unexpected disruptor in the 'Chop Chop' game,
making everyone burst into laughter.
And we observed Seung-woo, who, during the 'Love Letter' activity,
spontaneously performed 'Rollin' by Brave Girls, showcasing a mesmerizing wave.
We realized that there are many talented individuals within Daeyeon who are full of charm.
It was a time to discover the hidden talents that we would have never seen if we had just been sitting quietly in the office.
Despite the significant barrier posed by COVID-19,
it was difficult for everyone to gather in one place. Nevertheless,
when we all came together, we once again felt the unstoppable energy of Daeyeon.
We tried many new programs, and the enthusiasm and enjoyment shown
by Daeyeon employees exceeded our expectations.
It made me realize that one of Daeyeon's greatest strengths as a company is its 'culture of possibilities.'
From the preparation period to the end of the workshop, everyone who was involved worked so hard.
To all the Daeyeon employees who followed the cheeky rules of the organizers,
who had an average age of 27.5, and actively enjoyed the event, thank you and we love you!
